Tomkins: Confidence Is A Major Factor

Defender James Tomkins spoke ahead of today’s game against Watford about how back to backvictories have increased the confidence within the squad and how the lads will be looking to kick on with three back-to-back wins for the second time this season.

“As a squad we have got the confidence back which we didn’t have previously, two wins is massive in the situation, it can shoot you right up the table. We can kick on from here and would certainly be nice to make it three wins this afternoon.

“We played Boro a couple of weeks ago and it could have been a difficult one following the games against Swansea and Sunderland but we saw the game out and got the victory. We then had to travel to West Brom, which is a difficult place to go, and not many teams have gone there and won but we did and it shows we are building together as the matches go by.”

The 27 year old defender has in recent weeks been alongside a new partner at the heart of the defence since Mamadou Sakho signed on transfer deadline day and he is delighted with the influence the France international has had in recent weeks,

“The manager always likes to take the defence away to one side in the week and work on our shape and how we can get those clean sheets and its paying off of late. Mamadou has come in and he has been brilliant and hit the ground running.  He has used his experience to help us all out and that has been vital to us all.”

This weekend’s game is another opportunity for the fans to play their part from the stands and Tomkins sees no reason why the level of support will be any different from what has become the normal.

“Pulling more teams into it is what we are looking at doing, the game against Watford is massive. The fans are always magnificent through the game, last home match they added a real edge to our performance and it showed throughout, hopefully it will be a good game again today and we get the three points."
