From The Boardroom: Watford

We bring you the latest comments from the boardroom as Steve Parish pens his programme notes ahead of today's game against Watford.

Firstly, I would like to welcome to the directors, management, players and supporters of Watford to SE25 this afternoon.

They arrive at Selhurst Park where everyone has been lifted by two consecutive victories which has seen us move out of the relegation zone. As well as the tremendous effort that has been put in by the players and management over the past few weeks, I have to thank you, the supporters, for your positivity during the last two games.

I had used my previous programme notes as a bit of a rallying call, and as I expected you didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere here against Middlesbrough was brilliant right from the moment the teams began to warm up and didn’t stop until the final whistle.

The win was fully merited as it was a fantastic performance from the boys to get us the points thanks to Patrick’s first goal for us, and I was delighted for him to start his Palace career in style. We looked assured and confident throughout and that was in no small measure down to the backing from the home fans. You make a massive difference and we will need everything from you if we are to get ourselves out of this situation.

Those who travelled to West Bromwich Albion a week later were just as vocal, and they easily outsung the opposition throughout the 90 minutes, especially when we took the lead and went on to clinch the points late on.
After seeing so many wonderstrikes fly past us over recent years, it was fantastic to see us netting two quality efforts ourselves. Wilf’s goal continued to show just how much he has improved this year, and then Andros’ sheer determination to win the ball in a dangerous area and carry it all the way to the opposition goal before blasting home was a testament to his fitness and ability.

As well as some great pieces of skill, the two victories have been down to some superb teamwork and discipline. We’re beginning to see the fruits of the work that Sam and his coaching staff have been putting in over at Beckenham.

Despite back-to-back wins, we cannot slip back into complacency. We still need the players to keep up the standards they have set over the last month or so, and equally we need the loud and proud support from the stands to push them right through the whole game today, which is a chance to try and pull another team into the mini-league at the bottom of the table.

The squad jetted off to Morocco for a few days and hopefully they have been reinvigorated from the warm weather training and a chance to rest up with a fortnight between matches. We are about to enter the most crucial part of the season, and if we continue to match the standards we set against Middlesbrough and West Brom, then I am confident that we’ll manage to ensure there will be Premier League football in south London for the fifth consecutive season.

Up the Palace!
