While the Crystal Palace first team continue to enjoy a hard-earned break ahead of a return to pre-season training in July, the club’s academy sides are already embarking on European tours to aid their preparation for the 2014/15 campaign.
The Eagles’ under-11 and under-12 sides will both jet out to Sweden this weekend ahead of a tournament in Stockholm, while our under-13 players will be heading across the English Channel to play a series of matches in France.
But the European action for our youngsters doesn’t stop there, with the under-12s back on the road next Thursday to take part in a three-team tournament in Rome, Italy, before our under-10s go to Slovakia at the beginning of July.
Crystal Palace academy manager Ben Smith said: “These tours allow the players and staff to experience playing against foreign opposition in a different climate and within a different culture.
“Players learn a different styles of play as it is a tournament format. For many, this will be their first time abroad or away from home so this will also be a learning experience.
“The players will also be trying new foods and dealing with a different currency so it is an all-round education for everyone involved.”
