Adelene Guedioura will not feature in the 2014 FIFA World Cup after failing to secure a spot in Algeria's 23-man squad for the tournament in Brazil.
Guedioura, who has won 28 caps for his country, was the one man dropped from the Greens' provisional squad of 24 players and will cruelly not be on a plane to South America in the coming days.
The Eagles midfielder had played an hour of Algeria’s World Cup warm-up victory over Armenia at the weekend, producing a solid display for the African nation.
First half goals from Essaid Belkalem, Nabil Ghilas and Islam Slimani saw Algeria run out comfortable 3-1 winners over their European counterparts, in a friendly that was played in Switzerland on Saturday evening.
Guedioura’s country have one more warm-up match to play, against Romania on Wednesday night, ahead of their World Cup opener against dark horses Belgium on Tuesday 17th June.
Adrian Mariappa was also in international action over the weekend, but he could not prevent his Jamaica side going down 1-0 to World Cup qualifiers Switzerland.
Mariappa was one of the Reggae Boyz’ star performers at the heart of the back four, but could not stop Josip Drmic from scoring a late winner in Lucerne.
Jamaica will have the chance to bounce back from that loss when they take on Egypt at Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium on Wednesday night.
