Sekajja brace seals win for Eagles

Posted on: Tue 24 Aug 2010

The Academy kicked off their season with a trip up to Leeds last Saturday and Academy coach Gary Issott was impressed with his side's performance, after going a goal down in the first half.

"We got a real creditable 3-1 win at Leeds and on the day it was a terrific second half performance that got us the win. In the first half we fell a goal behind following a shot from distance. Charlie Mann looked to have it covered but it came off of the post. Three of our defenders were in the box but by luck it landed to their striker and he smashed it in from six yards.

"We had some chances of our own but just could not put them in the net. In fact just before the break we survived a real scare when Leeds hit the post and the bar in the same incident."

As both teams went into the break, Issott's side had time to re-group and assess how they had played so far.

"I did not have to say a lot to the lads at half-time as we had been playing quite well. I just told them to continue playing the way they were and we would get a breakthrough."

That breakthrough came on the 55th minute and gave the lads confidence to go on and win convincingly according to Issott.

"Kyle scored at a good time for us on 55 minutes and Ibra grabbed another 20 minutes later. Then with five minutes to go Reece Williams carried the ball more or less the whole length of the pitch on the left and picked out Ibra in the box to ensure we ran out winners."

When asked whether there had been any notable performers following the 3-1 win, Issott quickly pointed to a player that got the U18's side back into the game, following the half-time interval.

"Kyle De Silva had a very good game and that is best I have seen him, certainly through pre-season. He played with some fight as a front player and was a goal threat. I think Alex Wynter had a good game as well as he played at centre half for the first time in a year made us a better side on the day."

The Academy host Barnsley this Saturday at the Beckenham training ground with the game scheduled to kick off at 11am. Season ticket holders are able to watch these matches for free at the training ground located on Copers Cope Road.
