Posted on: Wed 08 Dec 2010

Academy centre-back Ryan Innis has put pen to paper on a scholarship and professional contract with Crystal Palace.

The scholarship contract takes effect from his 16th birthday and on the date of his 17th birthday he will join the rank of professional contract players at the club.

Ryan joined the club two years ago, having been a member of the Palace Guard team as a schoolboy. Despite being only 15, he has been playing for Palace's under 18 side and was part of the table-topping team that recorded a 4-1 win over Arsenal last week.

The 6ft 3in defender, has also been part of the under 16 set-up for England this season and is the latest youngster to emerge through Palace's acclaimed academy.

Academy Manager Gary Issott said: "We're absolutely delighted to secure Ryan, it's something we've been trying to do for a while. He's a towering centre-half with outstanding leadership qualities."

"This season he's been playing week in, week out for the under 18s. He came with us in pre-season to Holland and his performances there convinced me we had a special player on our hands."
