U13's take on Arsenal

Posted on: Wed 28 Oct 2009

There is no doubt that our performance in the first period was the best football we have played so far this season. We were increasing in confidence after every successful passing sequence. No goals were scored during the period however it was clear to see the Arsenal players went into the break dejected after being outplayed.

We began the second period full of belief and determined to score. Striker Tiosey who is in superb form scored a fine goal from outside the box when he curled accurately over the keeper. Arsenal were creeping back into the game but the centre half partnership of Michee and Stefan was proving too hard to break down.

We changed our shape to accommodate our substitutions at the half way point and in what was the most even quarter Arsenal managed to equalize.

The team has shown a great ability to come back from disappointment in the past four games and again we reacted the right way to conceding. Manager John sent Louis on with specific instructions and his impact was immediate. After some neat play down the wing followed by a battle in the box Louis finished whilst holding off the defender. Minutes later Arsenal were awarded a goal when full back Travis cleared with his head from the goal line.

The injustice only spurred us on again and Mandella another big impact sub won a penalty when he was bundled over in the box. Mandella bravely stepped up to take the penalty but blazed over the bar. Events in the game then took an unusual turn when with only minutes remaining the referee went down injured. The Arsenal manager suggested we call time however the Palace players were adamant the game must go on. A replacement referee was called in and after an excellently taken free kick from Travis, striker Hussein buried for the fifth and final goal of the game.
