ROBERT 'BOB' LUCAS

The club is sad to announce the death on Thursday 12th August of our former goalkeeper Bob Lucas aged 85 after losing his battle with cancer.

Bob joined Palace as a 17 year-old in 1942 making his debut for the Juniors that October. As it was during the War Bob was soon drafted in becoming a Royal Navy radio operator.

Bob's only appearances in the Football League for the club were four games in the 1946-47 season, three of them following the club's 2-10 defeat at Reading.

Bob then joined Tonbridge and in 1949 signed for Weymouth where he had a long association with the Dorset club as player, physio for 32 years and President until his death. Bob was also a physio with the FA for 12 years.

The club and supporters from his time with Palace send our condolences to his family, relatives and his many friends from Weymouth Football Club at this sad time.
