COLIN TAYLOR

Posted on: Tue 05 Jul 2005

Colin TaylorThe club is sad to announce the sudden death on 29th June of one of the members of the 1968/69 promotion team.

Left-winger Colin Taylor, who possessed a venomous shot, played most of his football for Walsall but came to the notice of Bert Head following a cup-tie when he scored against Palace.

Bert signed Colin in the summer of 1968 and he made his debut in the first game of that season. He went on to play 40 league and cup games scoring 10 goals. Two of these goals were of his 'cannonball' variety from distance with one contributing to the defeat of Leeds United in the League Cup and the other a vital strike in a home win over Millwall.

Colin only played one season for Palace but one outcome of this was that, his then young, nephew became a Palace fan and he brought Colin back to Selhurst Park for reunions.

The club sends its condolences to Colin's family, especially his nephew, at this sad time.
