RAY POTTER

Posted on: Thu 20 Apr 2006

Ray Potter The club is sad to announce the death last Sunday of former goalkeeper Ray Potter at the age of 69.

Ray hailed locally from Beckenham and he joined the Palace groundstaff in 1951 from its nursery club of Beckenham Town before signing professional forms in May 1953. His debut came in April 1954 at the tender age of 18 and he was the club's regular custodian through 1956 but the arrival of Vic Rouse then limited his opportunities. After making 49 League and Cup appearances for Palace Ray joined West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 1958 and over the next nine years he made over 200 appearances for the First Division Club. Ray ended his professional career with Portsmouth in 1967.
