In the short time George Burley has been at the club he has already shown how important the youngsters will be this season but he told the official website after the defeat at Scunthorpe that the job is only just beginning and it will need more than we have.

"We are trying to rebuild this club and clearly there is a lot of hard work ahead of us,  We have used a lot of young players in the early games this season but perhaps now is the time to bring in some experience and that's what I will be trying to do in the next few days before the transfer window closes."

This was a game in which the boss was able to give first league starts to a number of players including Edgar Davids.

"We have got Edgar Davids here with us now and I'm sure he will have been disappointed after this performance because he's a winner.  Scunthorpe were hungrier than us and deserved the victory that they got.

"We did okay in the early stages but then the game turned away from us when we lost our centre-half and skipper Patrick McCarthy when we had to pull him off because of illness."

After that bright start the side it was the loss of McCarthy which was to prove a turning point.

"We then gave Scunthorpe two goals before half-time with some sloppy defending.  We never really looked like getting back into the game in the second half and can have no complaints about the end result."
