Warnock: We Have Got A Great Opportunity This Season

Posted on: Sat 24 Oct 2009

Neil Warnock has confirmed that Victor Moses is the only doubt ahead of the Nottingham Forest game on Saturday, while confirming that Darren Ambrose came through his substitute appearance against Leicester on Tuesday night unscathed:

"Victor has started training so he might be available. Darren Ambrose has had no adverse effect either. I didn't want to risk him as I was in two minds, I wanted to play him but I didn't want to risk him pulling it and being out for another month."

The defeat to Leicester was Palace's first Championship game they have lost in five games. And while Neil was disappointed not to have actually won the game, he has been pleased overall with how his side has performed in these early stages of the season:

"I was disappointed we didn't actually win the game on Tuesday night. We dominated the first half, should have scored goals but the final third was not good enough. Our passes went astray, we didn't pick the right one, we couldn't get hold of the ball to run with it, we seemed to slip over ourselves and we dominated the whole game, but Leicester were always going to have a time when they would be on top of us.

"Defensive-wise we were fine, but [we gave away] a ridiculous penalty. Nick Carle, whatever he has thought about I haven't got a clue, but it was a really poor penalty to give away at that stage and then Danny Butterfield made the mistake and it is all over which is very disappointing really.

"I think the lads have done reasonably well, we have stuck together and we have had a difficult run of fixtures. If we can get through these next half a dozen fixtures in to November and stay in touch with the top end then I think we have got a great opportunity this season.

"Yes we are a little bit short of quality up there but the lads are really trying hard and I can't fault them, we just have to hope that one or two of our players can hit a bit of form.

On Saturday, Palace face up against the in-form side of the Championship: Nottingham Forest. The midlands' side have won five out of their last five and conceded only once, taking them up from 19th to 7th in the table.

"I suppose it is the short straw playing them this weekend, but it is the sort of challenge we relish because we think that when we play we can beat anybody, so why not Forest? It might be easier than Scunthorpe and who would have thought they would thump us like they did."
