Burley : Outcome Hinged On One Incident

Posted on: Sat 21 Aug 2010

George Burley was pleased with the performance of his team despite losing the game by the odd goal.

"The outcome of the game hinged on the one incident but we have no one to blame but ourselves. Overall I thought we were the better team, we passed it better but they made it difficult for us. Overall I was pleased with the performance but we lacked discipline with regards to the sending off.

"The midfield played some great stuff and once again our youngsters showed what they can do.

"I have no argument with our sending off, we all make mistakes but I can't condone what happened. If you lose that discipline as far as the sending off and the penalty is concerned against a team like Ipswich with ten men, then you are going to struggle.

"We all make mistakes, it is a team game and we will take it on the chin, but we have to learn from it and I am sure Claude will learn from this situation."

George when asked about the dismissal of Andros Townsend felt the visitors were hard done by to finish the match with only ten men.

"For me, Ipswich's red card looked harsh because it was just a challenge on the goalkeeper, but I did not have a clear view."
