Peter Taylor.

Crystal Palace boss Peter Taylor is hoping his side can get back on track at the weekend, when they entertain Burnley in the Championship at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

After Tuesday's Carling Cup defeat at the hands of Notts County, Taylor has challenged his players to bounce back in the right way by collcting three points against the Clarets.

He revealed that there could be up to nine changes to the team which featured on Tuesday night, as Palace aim to recover from that match and last weekend's unfortunate reverse at Birmingham City.

"We have had a poor week and we are looking to bounce back on Saturday now," said Taylor. "We can't wait to get back on the pitch and be even more determined.

"I'm not disappointed with the way that we're playing because there has been more positives than negatives in the four (league) games we've played and looking at the video from Birmingham, we definitely deserved to have got something out of the game.

"If we can bounce back, all of a sudden we can be back on top of the table so that's what we're aiming for. We need to put it behind us, get on with it and respond in the right way."

Steve Cotterill's Clarets arrive at Selhurst Park having made a good start to the season themselves. After winning their first two games in the Championship and then taking a point on the road at Sheffield Wednesday, like Palace, they then suffered their first defeat of the campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend and then crashed out of the Carling Cup at the hands of a League Two outfit in Hartlepool United.

Taylor knows that they will prove to be tough opposition for the Eagles though and admits that it came as no surprise to him that the Lancashire side started the season brightly after they had previously been all but written off by the so-called experts.

"I've known Steve Cotterill for a long time, from his non-league days with Burton Albion and he's a very well organised manager," said Taylor.

"I think they played a lot of 4-5-1 and 4-3-3 last year and Steve has got them very well organised. Like ourselves, they have had a very disappointing week with two losses, so they will be looking to bounce back just like we are."

Dougie Freedman.
Dougie Freedman - set for a start?

After making multiple changes to the team for Tuesday's game in the Carling Cup and giving players such as Scott Flinders, Matt Lawrence, Darren Ward, Gary Borrowdale, Marco Reich, Michael Hughes and Dougie Freedman their first starts of the season, Taylor admits there is to be more changes on Saturday.

Exactly who returns and who is left out remains to be seen, as Taylor understandably keeps his cards close to his chest.

"There will be nine different starters on Saturday from those that started on Tuesday," he revealed.

"We finished off with a very good performance at Birmingham last Saturday and if we play that way again, I'm sure I'll be very happy with that."

One man who may be in contention to start the game is Freedman, who netted in the 2-0 win over Burnley last season and has previously scored a hat-trick against the Clarets at Turf Moor back in 2003.

The Scotsman has been in good form after coming off the bench in all of the Championship games so far and Taylor admits he has been impressed by his contribution so far.

"Dougie did very well (on Tuesday) and has done all season and he's pushing for a start, so we'll have to see," he admitted.

"He's a very intelligent lad, is very fit and knows the game. He reminds me very much of Nick Barmby. I worked with him for two years at Hull and Dougie is exactly the same."
