Butterfield v Scunthorpe

The Eagles enhanced their play-off hopes this afternoon after Victor Moses provided perfect crosses to give his team-mates a 2-0 win at Selhurst.

A ball down the wing on the 15th minute found Scunthorpe's Martin Paterson, the striker somehow kept the ball in by clipping it over Mark Hudson's head and into the box. The Eagles captain attempted to control the ball with his head but  Paterson was in toe and got round Hudson, but his shot flew straight into the arms of Julian Speroni from close range.

However, six minutes later Scott Sinclair picked up the ball on the right wing and ran across the pitch and laid the ball off to Victor Moses. The Palace Academy product proceeded to dazzle Cliff Byrne with his quick feet and hit a low cross from the byline. Clinton Morrsion looked set to score but somehow missed from six yards, luckily Tom Soares was on hand to smash home from the back post.

With 33 minutes on the clock Ian Morris nearly provided the goal to get his side back on level terms. Morris's cross from the left flew straight to the back post but an unmarked Jonathan Forte could only head wide of Speroni's right post.

Moses was again provider on the 39th minute when he glided past Byrne and hit another perfect cross, this time Morrison did not miss and headed the ball into an empty net and gave the Eagles a two nil lead. The Irish international then proceeded to  tear his shirt off and run to the corner flag to celebrate with Moses and the rest of his team-mates.

As the referee blew the half-time whistle the crowd roared and clapped their heroes into the dressing room after a thrilling first half at Selhurst Park.

After such a high tempo game in the first half, the Eagles came out looking to increase their lead and dominance over a Scunthorpe side who almost look to have resigned themselves to relegation.

Paul Hayes entered the frame on the 65th minute for the Iron but failed to make any quick impact on the game with the Eagles looking to get forward at every opportunity.

Five minutes later the crowd were on their feet to applaud Moses contribution to the game as he was substituted to make way for Irish U21 international Sean Scannell.

Carl Fletcher replaced midfield enforcer Shaun Derry in the final ten minutes as Warnock looked to rest players ahead of next Saturday's trip to Watford

Sinclair picked the ball up in his own half on the 82nd minute and went on a trademark run, causing the opposing defence to back off, the Chelsea starlet cut inside and smashed the ball goalbound only for it to deflect off a defender for a throwin.

Butterfield took the resulting throwin and found Soares who passed it back to the right full back, the resulting cross to the back post deflected off Byrne straight into Morrison, but somehow from 5 yards he hit the ball over the top left corner, on another day Morrison could have easily had his first hat-trick in a Palace shirt.

In the closing minutes Morrison made way for Ashley-Paul Robinson who sliped straight into the Irish international's position of centre forward.

Somehow Iron striker Andy Butler hit the ball over the bar on the 91st minute when a cross from the right found him unmarked but his right footed strike from seven yards flew over the bar and ended any chance of a fightback for the Iron side.
