Palace striker Clinton Morrison moved to within a goal of reaching the 100 strike landmark on Saturday, when his stoppage time effort saved a point for the Eagles against Leicester City.
The 28-year-old was hoping to bag a brace against the Foxes to reach his century in front of the Selhurst Park crowd, but he will now have to wait until next Sunday's game at Ipswich Town to try and seal it, or beyond that, the visit of near neighbours Charlton Athletic to SE25.
"It's a great achievement for me," he said.
"This is my home club, I've really enjoyed my time here and it means a lot to be closing in on that kind of record.
"Now I just want to get the ton and push on to do the next milestone."
Morrison, now in his second spell at Selhurst after starting his career with the Eagles, had planned a special t-shirt celebration for when he does reach the milestone, but with a new change in rules this season, that idea has been ruled out.
"I was going to wear a shirt with the message '100 Not Out' but the manager doesn't want me to do it because you get booked if you take your shirt off," he added.
"I pick up enough yellow cards as it is with my mouthiness, so he didn't want me to get another one and possibly miss games."
With two goals from two starts in the Championship so far, Morrison is now focusing on bettering last season's tally and made no secret of his goal target.
"I want to do better than 12 League goals last season," he said.
"For my standards that is not good enough for me. I think I can hit 20 goals."
