Crystal Palace can confirm that Jose Fonte has signed for Southampton for an undisclosed fee.

The defender has been with Crystal Palace since completing a move to Selhurst Park in late July of 2007, when international clearance was received for him to join Palace on a 12-month loan from Benfica.

The loan agreement included an option to make the move a permanent switch at the end of the 2007/08 season, which was activated in July 2008.

Since then he established himself at the heart of Neil Warnock's defence and went on to make 92 appearances in a Palace shirt and score six goals, including one in our last home game against Ipswich Town on Boxing Day.

In other news Hakeem Adelakun has signed on loan for Dover Athletic. He will stay with the Blue Square South side until February 13th.
