Butts: We Are Closer As A Squad

Posted on: Sat 13 Feb 2010

With the memories of that hat-trick against Wolves still fresh in the memory, attention for this Sunday's Fifth Round tie against Aston Villa is now firmly set in the mind of Danny Butterfield.

Talking to a packed press room at the Beckenham Training Ground, Danny admitted that it will require a big effort to get past a very strong Aston Villa side:

"We know it is going to be a tough game against Villa on Sunday. They have got quality in all areas of the pitch, although that is not to say that they have no weaknesses. But we know that as in the Wolves game anything can happen, and if we can put in a performance and Villa don't perform to their maximum and a little bit of luck along the way then who knows what the result will be."

The events of the past few weeks have added to the romance of Sunday's tie.

The prospect of a lower league beating a Premier League club is always a headline pleaser, but a club in administration bringing down the might of a Premier League club is understandably proving too hard to ignore, hence the packed out press room this week.

But as to what the effect of administration has on the squad so far Danny revealed that the news has galvanised an already close dressing room.

"As a squad we know that the players we have in the dressing room have been brought closer. We are working hard for each other and I think for the fans it has certainly made them appreciate that the boys are working hard on the training field and out on the pitch on Saturdays.

"The fans are supporting the boys unbelievably and we are putting in performances for them to cheer about."

It has been a common talking point within the dressing room about the support from the stands, and Danny admitted that it has made them even more determined to do well on the pitch:

"In the last four or five games the fans have been brilliant both home and away. There is an extra buzz when you go out there and a drive to be successful for them."
