Derry: It's Going To Be An Almighty Game

Posted on: Wed 17 Feb 2010

Shaun Derry believes that Wednesday night's fixture is going to be an "almighty game" for Crystal Palace.

The Eagles face Reading at Selhurst Park with the Royals sitting in 21st place, three places off Palace and only a single point between them.

A win for either side will be a huge step forward in both teams' bids to escape a relegation battle at the end of the season.

Speaking at the Beckenham Training Ground on Tuesday, Derry was pleased that they will be going into on the back of a positive result against Villa:

"I am just glad that we are still in the cup to take us into the Reading game," he said, "because if you find yourself being on the end of a spanking you have to try and gather yourselves and raise yourself up from the bottom [for what] is a huge, huge game for the club [on Wednesday] night.

"It is the league where this club is going to survive on and, although for the short term the money coming in from the cup run is excellent, we need to be a Championship side.

"Reading are one of the teams that are around us and if we can get three points on Wednesday then it takes us even closer to Coventry for Saturday.

"It is massive for the club to progress in the cup, but this is the bread and butter of it all and tomorrow is going to be an almighty game."

Palace Player subscribers will be able to watch Shaun's press conference in full later on today.

Tickets are still available for the Reading game while those purchased for the original fixture WILL still be valid.
