Fans Sponsorship Tops £16K

Posted on: Wed 17 Mar 2010

The launch of the new Fans Sponsorship initiative, set up between Crystal Palace FC and the Crystal Palace Supporters Trust to raise £50,000, has now hit £15,000

Crystal Palace supporters are being asked to help out the Club by sponsoring the game against Preston on Easter Monday 5th April, which is also a Family Day.

Supporters are asked to contribute £25 towards the sponsorship fund and the name of every fan that takes part will feature on a special poster in the matchday programme for the Preston game as well as a special scroll of honour on the giant screen.

Chief Executive Phil Alexander spoke to www.cpfc.co.uk about his delight at the positive response from fans:

"We have been extremely pleased with how it has been received and we want to thank those who have already pledged their money for this initiative.

"But there is still a long way to go and we are continuing to look at different ways of spreading this message to encourage more and more fans to back the club in its hour of need."

The feedback from fans has also been extremely positive and we caught up with the first fans who pledged their money over the opening weekend.

Terry Beattie, from Paddock Wood, was the first supporter to sponsor the Preston game and he told us that he hopes the incentive will bring more Palace fans together over the next few weeks.

"It is a good idea and hopefully it can raise some much needed money for the club.

"Hopefully as many people as possible can get behind it because Palace are in dire need of help at the moment. It has been a couple of hectic months so hopefully this initiative can bring everyone together."

Michael Frankin, a season ticket holder in the Holmesdale Lower, was pleased that this incentive will highlight some of the good work that goes unnoticed by the Crystal Palace Supporter's Trust.

"I think it is a great thing that the trust is doing and it gives the Trust more exposure as well because I don't think many people know about the work they do.

"It is the way forward and I signed up to it because I wanted to help the club out, as simple as that really."

While James Goodger, from Beckenham, admitted he didn't have to think for too long before making the call to the Box Office:

"I didn't have to think too hard about it. My initial thought was how much the cost of a match ticket was and if I can spend it when the club needs it then I am more than happy to do so."
