Rhoys Wiggins in action for Palace reserves

Welsh under 21 left-back Rhoys Wiggins is facing over six months on the sidelines after rupturing knee ligaments in Palace's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace USA.

The 18-year-old, who was an unused substitute for the Welsh senior side in their last match against Trinidad and Tobago, had featured heavily for Palace during pre-season and signed his first professional contract during the summer.

Speaking from Palace's training camp in the USA First Team Coach Kit Symons said: "Rhoys has had his scan and it's a rupture of the ligaments. He'll need to have reconstructive surgery so he'll be out for a minimum of six months."

"Rhoys is an outstanding prospect and it's a huge blow to him," continued Kit. "But it's a test of character and I'm sure he'll come back. He is very strong physically and he'll come back mentally stronger from this experience. The operations they do are fantastic these days and have a very high success rate so he'll no doubt come back stronger and a better player for it."
