Matt Lawrence; Palace's latest signing. |
Crystal Palace have completed a sixth summer signing, with defender Matt Lawrence making the switch across south London from Millwall for an undisclosed fee.
The 32-year-old has signed a two year contract at Selhurst Park after spending the last six years with the Lions. During that time, he has made well over 250 appearances with many of them coming in the Championship after being bought from Wycombe Wanderers for a fee of £250,000 in March 2000.
Prior to that, Matt had played in college football in the USA whilst studying for a degree in American Literature before playing for Grays Athletic in non-league on his return.
A former team-mate at the Den of current Palace star Darren Ward, Lawrence was part of the team which reached the FA Cup Final in 2004 and is also particularly versatile, proving equally effective whether he is playing in the centre of defence or as a full-back.
Lawrence, who has been handed the number two shirt, follows Leon Cort, Mark Kennedy, Scott Flinders, James Scowcroft and Carl Fletcher as the new arrivals in SE25 for this season under new boss Peter Taylor.
