Attilio Lombardo
Clubs: Pergocrema, Cremonese, Sampdoria, Juventus, Crystal Palace, Lazio, Sampdoria
International honours: Italy
Caps won at Palace: 1
The 'bald eagle', as he became affectionately known, only played in a Palace shirt 48 times but he made such an impact on Palace fans that he has been included in their all-time team.
The Italian international was a sensational signing in the summer of 1997 and after scoring on his debut against Everton at Goodison Park his skills in the middle of the park helped to set-up numerous Palace attacks. In terms of sophistication and vision it is unlikely that Palace have had anyone better than Attilio.
After a heavy defeat at Chelsea in March 1998 manager Steve Coppell resigned and along with Thomas Brolin Attilio took temporary charge of team affairs for a few months. When the inevitable relegation followed Attilio further endeared himself to Palace fans by choosing to stay at the club but in January 1999 he moved back to Italy with Lazio.
