Eddie McGoldrick

Clubs: Nuneaton Borough, Northampton Town, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Manchester City, Stockport County (L)

International honours: Republic of Ireland
Caps won at Palace: 8

Eddie McGoldrick was a tricky winger who joined the club from Northampton Town in January 1989 and he proved to be the final component in the assembly of the promotion winning squad. He went on to become a huge favourite with Palace supporters, picking up the Player of the Year award in 1992.

Eddie's teasing runs to the by-line and supply of crosses were an integral and attractive feature of Steve Coppell's Palace sides. While Eddie was at Selhurst Park, they were a major reason for the club's success in the early 1990s. Eddie was seldom a great goalscorer but when he did deliver it was usually in vital circumstances, most notably in the 1989 play-off game away at Blackburn Rovers.

In the latter part of his Eagles career Eddie was deployed as a sweeper and, partly because of his adaptability, he was called up for international recognition with the Republic of Ireland.
