Swansea City will be looking to break a 90 year hoodoo when they take on Neil Warnock's red and blue army in the Championship tonight.

The two club's first met on the 4th December 1920 and the score-line remained goal-less affair come the end of 90 minutes of play. However, just seven days later Swansea travelled down to London and took home all two points in a one nil win.

Over 27 years passed before the clubs met again and it would be the Swans who drew first blood with a two nil home win on the 8th November 1947.

Just four months later the Eagles inflicted their own punishment as they thrashed the Welsh side 4-0 - a scoreline which still remains as the Eagles' biggest win over the club formed in 1912.

Last season the Eagles did the double over Swansea, starting with a 2-0 win at Selhurst Park on the 13th September, Ben Watson now at Wigan and current Eagles player Nick Carle  were the goal-scorers in that game.

Six months later the Eagles made the trip to Wales and grabbed a 3-0 win thanks to strikes from Victor Moses, Jose Fonte and Shefki Kuqi.

As things stand Swansea currently sit 5th in the table with 45 points and have not tasted defeat in their last seven games, taking 13 points from a possible 21.

One of those 13 points came against Palace back in December when the two sides played out a a goal-less draw.

At the weekend Swansea boosted their play-off credentials with a 2-0 win over Preston North End in the Championship.

That game also saw former Palace striker Shefki Kuqi making his second appearance from the bench for Sousa's side since moving from German side Koblenz on the 25th January during the transfer window on a free.

If not for the Eagles' ten point deduction from the Football League, following the club being put into Administration, Palace would be sitting just three points behind Sousa's side in sixth place.

Despite the deficit of points the Eagles currently sit 16th and have won their last two league fixtures against Peterborough United and Scunthorpe United.

In between those league games the club also came out on top of a tricky home replay against Wolves in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. Danny Butterfield was the hero that night as the right back come striker grabbed three goals in six minutes to set a Valentine's date against Aston Villa this Sunday.

Previous Home Encounters with Swansea City by Ian King

Palace and Swansea Town (they became City in 1970) first met in the Southern League Division One in the 1919-20 season and Town came to our former ground of The Nest on Easter Saturday 3rd April 1920 when goals from John Conner and Albert Green gave Palace a 2-1 victory.

That summer both clubs became founder members of the Football League's new Division Three, and on December 11th 1920 Swansea inflicted on us one of only two home League defeats in that Championship winning season by scoring the only goal of the game.

Since then our League encounters have been very few and far between, the next occasion came in the 1947-48 Division Three South campaign when, again in an Easter Saturday encounter, on March 27th 1948 Palace gained its biggest victory so far over the Swans winning 4-0 helped by a hat-trick from Freddie Kurz.

The following season the home game on 25th August 1948 ended all square at 1-1 and it was another draw, this time 3-3, when Swansea next came to Selhurst Park on 19th December 1964 for a Division Two clash.

The only F.A. Cup tie between us came in the Third Round in January 1980 which started with a 2-2 draw at The Vetch Field, the replay coming at Selhurst Park three days later on the evening of Tuesday 8th that ended 3-3 after extra time and a second replay in Cardiff that the Eagles lost 1-2.

Palace's 2-0 victory over already relegated City at Selhurst Park on 5th May 1984, thanks to goals from Jim Cannon and Kevin Mabbutt, meant that the three points gained were vital for the club's survival in Division Two.

Swansea's last visit here came over a year ago on 13th September 2008 when Neil Warnock decided to give a start to contract rebel Ben Watson after the transfer window had closed with Tom Soares departing to Stoke City.

His plans were also upset midway through the first half with injuries to John Oster and James Scowcroft who had to be replaced by Kieran Djilali and Calvin Andrew.

Scowcroft's departure came about following a foul and from the resulting free kick in the 27th minute, Watson's inswinging cross eluded everybody including City's goalkeeper.

At the start of the second half Swansea had two opportunities to equalise but both efforts were superbly dealt with by Julian Speroni, and then in the 66th minute Nick Carle secured victory with a twenty-yard drive that ended any hopes the Welshmen had of getting anything from the game.

This was actually the Eagles' first League victory of the season at the fifth attempt and took the club out of the bottom three places.
