Scunthorpe head into Saturday's match after two defeats on the bounce in the Championship, having followed up their 2-1 opening day win against Reading with defeat to Norwich City and then to table toppers QPR.
In midweek they returned to winning ways with a Carling Cup second round win against League One side Sheffield Wednesday at Glanford Park. Goals from Michael Collins, Chris Dagnall (2) and Michael O'Connor gave them a 4-2 win against the Owls and ensured the Iron would be in the hat for the next round.
United manager, Nigel Adkins, was delighted with his side's cup win but is expecting a tough return to league duties when Palace travel to north Lincolnshire:
"They have a good, experienced manager in George Burley and have a few star names in there as well. They have some very young athletic players who can play football and we know it's going to be a very difficult game."
