Former manager George Burley made David Wright his first signing as Crystal Palace manager.

He signed the right back in the summer of 2010 on a free transfer after his contract with Ipswich Town had expired.

Wright had been with Ipswich since 2007 after signing from Wigan Athletic for a reported fee of around £200,000.

In his four seasons with Town, Wright made 120 league appearances and scored five times.

He began his career back in 1997 with Crewe Alexandra, who had brought him up through the ranks and given him his debut at the age of 17 in a 2-0 win against Norwich City.

He went on to make over 200 appearances in seven seasons for the Alex before being signed by Wigan for £500,000 in 2004.

However his time with the Latics provided little in the way of first team opportunities, and after 45 games and a loan spell at Norwich City he accepted the move to Ipswich Town.

In his debut season at Selhurst Park, Wright made a total of 29 appearances in all competitions and showed his versatility playing in a number of positions in both defence and midfield.
