A nominee for the 07/08 Player of the Season and this season's captain, Derry proved to his doubters that although he was coming into the twilight years of his career his relentless work rate and overall ability still shone as bright as ever.
With a series of commanding displays at the centre of midfield, Shaun worked up an excellent working partnership with, Ben Watson. Together they became the heartbeat of the young Palace side with Shaun's defensive instincts allowing Watson to roam forward to add an extra threat in the Palace attacks.
His ability to do the simple thing, make the important tackles and clean up infront of his defence is a pivotal role and with expectations high this season, he will be more important than ever.
