Palace Res 2 Wycombe Res 1
Palace reserves returned to winning ways on Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory against Wycombe in a re-arranged Pontin's Combination League game at Hayes Lane.
With Neil Warnock making sweeping changes to the Palace first team that played Watford on Monday, there was a slightly different look to the reserve side that lost 3-2 to Aldershot last time out.
In came out of favour Tony Craig and Stuart Green, and there were starts for two of the previous night's unused first team subs, David Martin and Moses Swaibu.
Gary Issott was in charge once more for the evening, but the watching Keith Curle provided first team representation.
Dave Martin gave Palace a first half lead against a side containing ex-Eagles defender Will Antwi. Taking on two defenders down the left flank, he cut inside into the penalty area and hit a low shot past the 'keeper into the back of the net.
Wanderers equalised on 35 minutes courtesy of ex-Palace trialist Reuben Reid, who shot past Eagles stopper Scott Flinders.
Perhaps sensing a first team chance in the offing, Palace's young charges didn't hesitate, though, and
moments later Martin almost struck again with a shot from outside the penalty area that hit the bar and bounced out.
With only a few minutes to go before the break the Eagles were in front again thanks to a shot inside the box, this time from the right flank, by Ryan Hall to make it 2-1.
Palace's best chance for a third goal fell to the feet of Tony Craig, who hit a penalty against the post following a needless handball from a Wycombe defender.
Wycombe could have had a spot kick of their own near full time, but instead their substitute was booked for diving.
The win was Palace's first in four games and takes the reserves back up to 2nd in the table. The 2nd string are next in action at Charlton on Monday 12th November.
