Reserves : Millwall 0 C Palace 3

Posted on: Tue 23 Mar 2010

Ronnie Jepson saw his Reserve side maintain their unbeaten start to the season with a three nil away win over Millwall at Dartford FC's Princes Park.

The home side had more than their fair share of possession in the first half and went close to breaking the deadlock within the opening 15 minutes when Kamil Tevik fired the ball just over the bar from the edge of the area.

Kieran Djilali turned creator on the 22nd minute when his cross from the left found Alassane N'Diaye in the box. The attacking midfielder got a clean connection on the ball but lacked the power to trouble John Sullivan between the sticks.

Academy captain Jerry Nnmani forced Sullivan into action again on the 28th minute when the keeper produced a reaction save following a close ranger header from the centre back.

Darryl Flahavan was called into action on the 33rd minute following a long clearance from Sullivan which bypassed full back Lee Hills.Former Eagle Lewis Grabban was on his shoulder and nipped in to steal the ball. Flahavan noticed the danger and edged his way out to narrow the angle and managed to stop Grabban's drilled shot with his legs.

With three minutes left on the clock both sides made valiant attempts to take a lead into the break.

Marcus Bignot saw his shot from the right of the area smothered by Flahavan and less than 30 seconds later Taurean Roberts saw his cross come shot just eclipse the top right corner.

Flahavan was again called into action before the referee ended the first half of the derby encounter when Kieran Hughes-Mason laid the ball square to Marc Laid on the 18 yard box, only for the midfielder to shoot into the arms of Flahavan.

Despite the Lions looking the stronger side in the first 45, former Gillingham manager Ronnie Jepson's half time team talk appeared to galvanise the young Eagles team who looked a lot more composed on the ball in the second half.

Kieron Cadogan showed his goal-scoring pedigree from the wing on the 74th minute when he cut in on the left wing and smash the ball home into the top right corner.

Second half substitute Simon Thomas doubled the score-line six minutes later when he tapped home the ball after Sullivan failed to keep hold of the striker's initial effort.

As the game entered additional time Nathaniel Pinney grabbed the game's third after Djilali cut in from the right and into the box. His cross come shot to the back post appeared to be going in but Pinney made no mistake and slid the ball in to make it three nil.

Full highlights of the derby encounter will be on Palace Player tomorrow, along with Ronnie Jepson's thoughts on his side's 3-0 win.
