USA Tour 2009: In Their Camp
Crystal Palace USA Co-Manager, Jim Cherneski has been another instrumental figure in the continuing success and development of the USA professional set-up.
He talks to the official website about the forthcoming US tour, players to watch out for as well as what Neil Warnock's side can expect to face on July 13th.

Firstly Jim, are you looking forward to the visit of Crystal Palace?
Yes absolutely. We have been preparing for it for a while now and all the pieces are now all in place so we are looking forward to it and are excited to have them over so that they can see us, see what we are about. And for us too, it will be great to see them train and I think it will be a great week.
What is the main thing you want to get out of Palace's visit to the US ?
To keep the interaction between the two clubs as strong as it has been, because up until now the interaction between both outfits has been excellent. I am of the mindset that you can learn from other people; from Neil and Mick and Keith and it has been great to interact with them and talk with them about different ideas, which has always been fantastic value.
And it will also be good for them to see some of the players we have and see the level of our league. We want to show people that it is better than most Europeans probably think they would see from players in our team.
Are there players in your squad now that you think could play in English football?
Yeah I think that there are some. We want to be seen as an asset for Crystal Palace and this tour gives us the perfect opportunity to show that we have players good enough.
What do you mean specifically by asset?
We want to be a benefit to Crystal Palace, much like a reserve team is a benefit to the first team. Just like a reserve team gets players ready for the first team to help them win, we are in a similar position and we think we have players that could help player Palace in the future and this is now a good opportunity for our players to be seen.
What players should we be looking out for during the tour?
We have a couple of young players that we would like to promote, but certainly everyone on the team are good quality.
Stephen Basso is one to look out for. He is young, only 21, born and raised in Maryland but holds a European passport also.
He is naturally a left back but we use him as a centre back and he serves us well there right now. He has good pace, is good in the air, technical and strong in the tackle. He is a good player and one that I believe is could help out the first team in London in the future.
We also have Paul Robson who is a right back, but is also very good on the left side as well. This will be a good opportunity for him to be seen in a match. Paul was over in London for a short time training with the first team and he is a really good player.
We also have Machel Millwood who has proven to be a top scorer in the past. He actually went to play indoor football and there is good money in that, but we brought him back to outdoor football and we have hopes that he will find the goalscoring form that he has shown in the past. He is fast, skilful and good in the air.
From the interaction you mentioned earlier, has the academy management staff worked with you to impose the same sort of philosophy we have here to breed success in young players.
We have the syllabus that the youth management use in London, but in truth, we have not spent enough time with David Moss and his new group.
The time we spent with both the senior and academy staff has been invaluable and we have picked up a lot of great stuff.
What can our players expect when they walk out on to the pitch to face your boys?
I think it will be competitive and because we will be playing in the middle of our season and at the beginning of theirs we should be sharp.
We are also expecting a sold out crowd, as well as national coverage on Fox Sports Soccer channel, which is the same company as Sky Sports. So it will be a big event.
