Second Tour Match Announced

Posted on: Wed 24 Jun 2009

The second match of the USA pre-season tour will take place on Thursday July 16th and the match will be against Harrisburg City Islanders at Lancaster's Clipper Magazine Stadium, home to the Lancaster Barnstormers Baseball Club. Kick off will be at 7:05 p.m.

"We look forward to this great opportunity to face top-notch, international competition and expose a wider audience to our club," said City Islanders General Manager Kierstin Rowe. "We thank Crystal Palace and the Lancaster Barnstormers for working with us to make this happen."

Tickets for the match will be $12, and may be purchased through the Barnstormers' website, http://www.lancasterbarnstormers.com. Group rates are available by contacting the Lancaster Barnstormers group sales department at 717- 509-4487.

This match will be part of a week-long pre season "USA Tour" which also includes a friendly on July 13 against Crystal Palace Baltimore, and one of Harrisburg's opponents in the United Soccer Leagues Second Division (USL-2).

Crystal Palace Manager Neil Warnock believes that Palace UK "will be warmly met and the facilities will be good; I am totally confident about that."
"We're excited to play against a well established English team," said Islanders Head Coach Bill Becher. "We look forward to the challenge and hope to continue to bring international competition to the midstate."

Crystal Palace will be Harrisburg's first ever European opponent, though the Islanders have in the past played such high-level clubs as D.C. United and the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer, the Rochester Rhinos and Vancouver Whitecaps of the USL First Division, and Village United of Jamaica.

The City Islanders are currently in their sixth season in the USL Second Division, attempting to win their second championship in three years. The club plays its home games at Skyline Sports Complex on Harrisburg's City Island. The organisation's youth component, the City Islanders Academy, fields 15 teams (ages 10 through to 20) in the Super-Y League and offers a wide range of instructional programs throughout the area.
