Moxey began his career with Exeter City at the age of 11 when he joined the club as a trainee, and when the club were relegated from the Football League six years later in 2003 he was given his chance at first team action. Quickly establishing himself as a first team regular, he helped the Grecians return to the Football League via the play-offs at the end of the 2007/08 season, and was also instrumental as they won promotion to League One.

That success saw Derby swoop for his signature and after 52 games for the Rams, he moved to Crystal Palace where he played 17 times in his first season, scoring once with an equalising goal against his former employers at Selhurst Park in a 2-2 draw.

Moxey was hampered by injury last season but the defender still managed to battle back and make 20 appearances for the club, including several at centre back as injuries took their toll on the back line.
