Bill Davies was the first Palace player to gain international recognition when he took his place in the Wales squad for a game against Scotland at Dundee in March, 1908.
Following the Glaziers’ fourth-place finish in the 1907/08 Southern League season, the midfielder moved to West Bromwich Albion but after just a couple of seasons he was to return to the south Londoners - only three players made more Southern League appearances for the club than Davies and during his time at Palace.
