Billy Callender

Date of birth

Billy Callender moved down from Northumberland to become the understudy to goalkeeper Jack Alderson, making just one appearance in his first season with the club.

The No.1 jersey became his own in the 1925/26 season, though, and further recognition came when he was named in the Football League representative side. His form at club level helped take the team to the brink of returning to the Second Division in the 1928/29 season, only losing out on promotion through goal difference.
