Paul Hinshelwood

Date of birth

Paul Hinshelwood was selected for a trial after a recommendation to the club from former manager, Arthur Rowe.

Having signed in 1971 as a striker, Hinshelwood changed position in 1976, and slotted in at right-back. He was part of a back four that was a major reason for the club’s rise from the Third Division to the top-tier of English football.

For the two campaign that Palace were in Division One, the Bristol-born defender was named the fans’ Player of the Season.
