Tony Taylor’s arrival in the autumn of 1968 saw him immediately form an impressive partnership with Steve Kember in the centre of midfield.
The duo’s domination of the middle of the park proved vital to Palace gaining their first promotion to the top-flight at the end of Taylor’s first season with the club.
Upon going up, Taylor displayed his versatility with several appearances as a left-back or further up as a winger – only John Jackson and Mel Blyth made more First Division appearances for the club between 1969 and 1973.
In the early '70s Taylor was named captain and in 1973 was awarded the club’s Player of the Season award.
