Crystal Palace Ladies fought off a threatening comeback from Leicester City Women on Sunday to clinch three points away from home thanks to goals from Nikita Whinnett and Gemma Bryan.
Though the first half of the clash was a tight affair and little was created by either side, Palace saw the first notable effort go begging when Fran Ali had a crack at the Foxes' goal only for Demi Lambourne to pull off a smart save.
Other than a few tame attempts at goal from both teams, the game's opening 45 then failed to yield anything to warm the watching crowd's hands.
Returning after the half-time break, however, the clash sprung into life in dramatic fashion when the Eagles took the opening goal through Whinnett as she broke through the home side's backline and slotted coolly past Lambourne off the inside of her far post.
Bryan then doubled Palace's lead when a defensive mix-up allowed her to prod home just yards from the goal line to give the Eagles a strong advantage.
Dean Davenport's side almost threw it away, however, when Leicester began to mount a comeback as Melissa Johnson and Freda Ayisi linked up well before the ball was threaded through to Hayley James, the full-back striking home with composure despite finding herself out of position.
Leigh Dugmore then brought the Foxes level with a furious strike at goal which flew into Lucy Gillett's net to seemingly hand Leicester a chance at winning.
Despite the Foxes being on top throughout the game's closing exchanges, Palace held their own and claimed three points when Bryan latched onto a long, bouncing ball down the middle of the pitch to slot home on the 84th minute.
The Eagles then defended well for the remainder of the match and ensured that they returned to south London as victors.
