This week Palace Player caught up with David Wright as the midfielder talked us through his routines during pre-season, his assessment of the squad and the opening week's fixtures.
Having suffered from a knee injury mid-way through last season, pre-season is a real opportunity for the midfielder to get back to full fitness. "I'm still not back with the group yet and I'm taking things very slowly because of what happened last year when I injured my knee. I came back a couple of months later and then broke down against Forest so I've had a long time to shut it down and make sure its right because I don't want it happening again. I'm hoping in the next week or so I'll be back with the boys.
"Everyone had a timetable when they had to be in during the summer. The likes of Paddy who played literally every game didn't have to be in (as much), it was more important for him to rest along with Jonny Parr. The boys who didn't play that often or the younger lads were in quite often making sure they were fit, especially first year pros...it's a massive step up into the first team, as everyone's quicker, everyone's stronger, so there's a lot more demand on the young kids. We're trying to prepare them for that. To be honest I think everyone looks very good and I think we've got a good squad here who look after themselves over the summer."
