Holloway: Everything But The Goal

6 April 2013

Ian Holloway gave his thoughts to the Palace website after seeing his side dominate before ultimately draw a blank against Barnsley, in a 0-0 draw at Selhurst.

"I'm just disappointed for the lads really. We had everything but the goal, we get a goal it changes everything. On that play and on those stats we definitely deserved to get one, but today and the last couple of weeks it hasn't been going in for us. The disappointment that everyone feels is a horrible thing, and it gets in you. I'd change that to disbelief after today and how we haven't scored from some of those chances. Unfortunately we haven't done that. We grew into the game and some of the football was very, very good. Unfortunately one or two things didn't drop."

Holloway bemoaned his side's inability to find the back of the net despite a display which saw 23 shots and 12 efforts on target, to Barnsley's none.

"The games are slipping away and we wanted something slightly better than this. But I can't ask for anything more other than sticking the ball in the net. Confidence is a very simple thing but it's a very hard thing to get it. If I could bottle it and sell it I'd be a multi-millionaire. The way the last couple of games have gone it's hard for the lads to have that so we're trying to reinforce that. I saw so much of that (positivity) today, that I can't moan."

The Palace boss praised his team and the fans, and bemoaned that little bit of luck that he feels his side are missing at the moment.

"It's a wonderful club and it's a wonderful place and I've got people who care aroud here. But in life to get that result when you need it, you also need a little bit of luck on your side. You can't want thing too much I'm afraid but all I can do is thank the crowd today. It was a wonderful day and they were absolutely terrific. The lads earnt that because of the way they tried to play and it looked like there was a goal coming."
