Palace’s under-21 side can count themselves unfortunate after falling to a narrow 3-2 defeat at Reading.
The Eagles flew out of the blocks and took the lead early on through Sullay Kaikai.
They had chances to double their advantage, but it was the home side who hit back when Simon Church’s shot was well saved by Tom King, only for Ryan Edwards to tap home from the rebound.
Lawson D’Ath then bundled home following a goalmouth scramble to give the Royals a narrow lead going in to half time.
Defender Nick Arnold looked to have sealed the points for Reading after cutting in from the right to fire home a superb individual effort.
But Palace got themselves back in with a shout, forcing an own goal to reduce the deficit after a sustained period of pressure.
Gary Issott’s men were unable to find a late equaliser though and Reading picked up their second win in the second phase of the Barclays Under-21 Development League.
