Holloway Praises Derby Display

1 May 2013

Ian Holloway hailed a “solid” performance by his team during the 0-0 draw at Millwall.

The Palace boss was pleased with the effort of his players in a frenetic south London derby, as the Eagles picked up a point in their push for a play-off position.

A win at home to Peterborough on the final day would secure 5th place for Palace, but anything other than victory would leave the door open for Bolton and Nottingham Forest to overhaul Holloway’s men.

The gaffer was in positive mood though following last night’s match at The Den.

He said: “We started it pretty strongly, we ended it pretty strongly and I thought it was a very good game. You’d never know that it was that important would you? I thought both sets of players were absolutely terrific, put everything into it. The fans couldn’t ask for more than that.

“We were definitely a threat. We looked solid, we broke well and every one of my team, I thought, played really well.

“I was warned about this and the rivalry, but what a fantastic advert for this division. Everyone behaved themselves and both teams should be very proud of their players and how well they went about it.”

Saturday’s crunch game at Selhurst Park sees both Palace and Peterborough looking to secure vital wins.

The Posh need all three points to be certain of their Championship safety, despite losing just twice in their last 16 league games.

But despite the visitors’ incredible late run, Holloway is confident that his team will get the result they need on the final day.

“I’ve been confident in my team all along,” he said.

“The fact is we’ve had a horrendous run and it can take over your whole persona, in other words all you can remember is something going slightly wrong for you.

“But we’re one of the lucky teams, at the right end. We’ve still got a fantastic chance. We’ve got to get in there [the play-offs] and we’ll be hard to beat and we’ll have a real chance.
“We need one more point and with a performance like that, I can see us getting that.”
