Guedioura On Fight For Fitness

27 November 2013

Palace midfielder Adlene Guedioura is targeting a return to full training as soon as possible – so that he can work on impressing new manager Tony Pulis.

The summer signing from Nottingham Forest has been out of action since 2nd November, when he broke two ribs and suffered a partly collapsed lung following a nasty collision with West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.

The Algerian has been restricted to gym work since the incident at The Hawthorns, which he recalled when talking to this afternoon.

Guedioura said: “When you look back at the action, it did not look too bad, but I heard straight away that it was broken. I couldn’t really stand up, so that’s why I ended up laying on my side not moving.

“I remember it happened in the same week that [Hugo] Lloris and [Romelu] Lukaku had their collision, so there were a couple of incidents of players colliding with goalkeepers. The media didn’t really speak about my injury, but I was in hospital struggling and needed an operation.

“It was frustrating at the time because I was trying to get back in the team and play more games, but these things happen in football and I’m always a positive person.

“At the moment we are doing well and I’m so happy that the team have more stability and solidity since the last time I played. Now I have to work hard to come back and show the new manager what I can do for this club.”

But Guedioura admits he hasn’t targeted a return date yet because he doesn’t know how long the injury will take to heal.

The 28-year-old added: “I’m feeling better. I’ve had my stitches taken out now so I’m happier and feel more comfortable. I can move around better now and am doing a lot of lower body work in the gym.

“I’m building up slowly because the ribs are still healing. The physios have had to hold me back a little bit because if I do too much too quickly, I could suffer a micro traumatism to the ribs. It’s about taking things step-by-step.

“I don’t want to say when I will be back because I don’t know really. Sometimes it’s quite good to get back in the gym for a long time like I am now because it will hopefully make me fresher and fitter for the rest of the season.”
