Delaney Pens New Palace Deal

30 October 2013

Crystal Palace Football Club are pleased to confirm that defender Damien Delaney has signed a new contract with the club.

The Republic of Ireland international, 32, joined the Eagles on a free transfer in August 2012, making his debut just days later in a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Selhurst Park.

Delaney has gone up to rack up 53 appearance in the heart of the Palace back line, including a commanding display against Watford in the Championship Play-Off Final, back in May.

He has continued to be a regular fixture in the side following promotion to the Premier League and has now been rewarded with a deal that keeps him at the club until June 2015.

Delaney told "It's really pleasing for me and something I've wanted to do. I was entering the last year of my contract here, so I've been talking to the club for quite a while. Obviously we've both had other things to worry about, but we managed to come to an agreement last week and I'm genuinely delighted.

"Since the day I first came through the door a little over 12 months ago, Dougie Freedman and Ian Holloway have been great to me and the fans have too. We had a lot of success last year and have had a difficult time this year, but I'm up for the challenge and it's something I want to be part of."
