Crystal Palace Football Club have been given the League Managers Association’s Performance of the Week Award following our memorable 1-0 victory over Chelsea.
The LMA’s five-man judging panel, which comprises LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson, former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, ex-Eagles manager Dave Bassett, Joe Royle, and Barry Fry, decided that Palace deserved the award after they upset Jose Mourinho’s title challengers.
Palace manager Tony Pulis received a specially engraved crystal football to commemorate the superb performance, on Saturday 29th March.
The prize is the club’s first LMA Performance of the Week Award of the 2013/14 season, having edged out the likes of Liverpool and Southampton – who enjoyed 4-0 wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United respectively – to secure the trophy.
Speaking after receiving the award at Palace’s Beckenham training ground, Pulis said: “I’d like to thank the LMA and obviously the people who choose the results for the Performance of the Week Award.
“It’s an honour and I’m very pleased personally, but it was the team and everyone connected with the team that got us the result.
“Most of the players played at their maximum and you have to do that against the top teams to get a result that you need. That’s what they did on Saturday.
“Everybody who put on a Palace shirt that day deserves an awful lot of credit.”
