London rivals Queens Park Rangers snatched the runners-up spot from under the Eagles' noses by beating Millwall 3-1 this afternoon, helped by a brace by former Palace hitman Andy Johnson to finish ahead of Gary Issott's side by a point.
The Eagles' cause had been helped by table toppers Cardiff City who had ended Bristol City's hopes yesterday by beating them 1-0, but the Hoops got the victory they required to leapfrog Palace.
