Captain's Comments: Aston Villa

2 December 2014

Before each home game, Eagles skipper Mile Jedinak lifts the lid on the mood in the camp and gives an insight into what's he's been up to ahead of matchday. Today he writes before taking on Aston Villa.

We picked up a good point away at Swansea City on Saturday in a game where we once again didn’t get off to the best start.

I thought we did everything we didn’t want to do in the opening 20 minutes, and we did well to keep the scoreline at one and not more because we weren’t keeping the ball well enough. Our goal woke us up and after that it was a different performance; we showed plenty of character and determination and were unlucky not to get another goal on the counter.

I was happy to chip in again, I’ve been given the responsibility to take penalties and I’m glad I hit the back of the net. In terms of goalscoring runs I think my current one is pretty close to the best in my career. I can’t remember getting so many in such little time, but I’ll take it as it comes.

I’ve been fortunate to be able to take the penalties and get into positions and score some goals but it means nothing to me unless we get points and I’m glad we came away from the game with something as we need to keep climbing up that table. For me it’s more about building and getting on a little run now, hopefully continuing tonight against Aston Villa.

If that run materialises it will have stemmed from the superb performance against Liverpool nine days ago. We went into that match with plenty of confidence as we knew that they weren’t in the best of form and we knew we could score goals against them. It doesn’t help when you go 1-0 down so early but once we rectified that and scored through Gayley’s excellent finish we felt comfortable and went on to get two more goals to get a huge result in the context of the season.

I’ve had a lot of comments about my free-kick but I’ve hit a couple like that before in Australia and Turkey, I think you can dig them out on the internet somewhere! It was great to be able to do it on the big stage where everyone was watching but more importantly it helped us get that two goal cushion and seal the win.

We’ve just moved into December and so the fixtures are coming thick and fast. As a player you look for these games as they’re important because if you can get a few results you can quickly climb up the league. However we’ll take them one at a time and everyone will get their recovery hats to ensure they’re ready for tonight and then the next one.
