Southampton come into this game on Boxing Day after their victory against Everton last weekend ended a six match run without a win. On the road they have lost four of their eight away games but from a defensive point of view have conceded just seven, which is the best record for a side in the top flight away from home this season.

The Saints have not been beaten on Boxing Day in the last six years but Palace’s last victory against them was when Neil Warnock was last in charge as his side ran out 3-0 winners.

The visitors have a couple of ex-Eagles in their squad, Nathaniel Clyne was given his Palace debut by Warnock but former Eagle and now Southampton captain, Jose Fonte, misses out through suspension.

Crystal Palace: Striker Marouane Chamakh continues to need more time before being back in contention as he is still suffering with a hamstring injury.
Last week Fraizer Campbell took his place up front so that could be the case again while defender Adrian Mariappa was back in the squad last week following injury.

Southampton: Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama both missed the victory last weekend as they carried out one-game suspensions but are immediately hit with another one as captain Jose Fonte misses a return to Selhurst Park after a fifth yellow card against Everton. Dusan Tadic is back in contention for a place after missing the last two games through injury.

Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton

One defensive lapse cost Palace dear as Jay Rodriguez's first half strike was enough to claim the win for Southampton on a frustrating afternoon for the home side at Selhurst Park.

The England international pounced on a loose ball after Jason Puncheon attempted to find Dean Moxey with a header and scrambled the ball home to net the only goal of the game, and despite plenty of effort from the home side they couldn't get back on level terms.
