Crystal Palace go into Saturday’s clash with Stoke City as the bookies’ favourites to come away with all three points and are priced up at 5/4 with SkyBet. The Potters are 9/4 to inflict defeat on their former manager, Tony Pulis, while the draw is also available at 9/4 in a game the bookmakers are clearly struggling to call.
Pulis and his successor at the Britannia Stadium, Mark Hughes, have never played out a draw in their six meetings Premier League encounters as managers, with Hughes coming out on top on four of those occasions.
However, Pulis’ knowledge of his former employers could prove a vital difference today and the bookies certainly agree with that sentiment, pricing Palace up at 1/3 to win or draw the game.
Stoke have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven games and Palace will fancy their chances of breaching the Potters’ defence again this weekend. The Eagles are 5/6 to bag the first goal of the game and you can get 11/4 on them scoring in both halves.
The 6/4 on offer for Palace to score two or more goals could also be tempting, even though they haven’t achieved that feat in the league since the 2-0 victory over Cardiff City in December.
With on loan striker Cameron Jerome unable to play against his parent club, Marouane Chamakh will provide Palace’s main goal threat and the Moroccan is 11/2 to score the first goal or 6/4 to score in 90 minutes.
Jason Puncheon bagged his first Palace goal in our last home game here against Norwich and will no doubt be eager to make up for his penalty miss at Tottenham. The winger is 8/1 to score first and 11/4 to score at any time.
Meanwhile, Stoke’s new signing, John Guidetti, who bagged 20 goals in 23 games on loan at Feyenoord two seasons ago, will be hungry to finally prove himself in the Premier League. The Swedish international may not start the game, but the 7/1 on him being the game’s last goalscorer, or the 12/5 on him finding the net in 90 minutes both look decent value.
Whatever happens, I expect the first half to be a pretty tight affair. The 9/2 on the Draw/Palace scenario in the half time/full time betting looks a fairly solid bet to me, while Palace to win by exactly one goal is 11/4.
Tugby’s Tip of the day: Snap up the 11/4 on Palace to win by exactly one goal.
Value bet of the day: Marouane Chamakh (4) and Charlie Adam (5) are the respective top scorers for both sides this season – and it’s 14/1 for them both to find the net again on Saturday.
Long shot of the day: Stoke have shipped five goals in two of their last four Premier League games. It’s 18/1 on Palace to score four or more on Saturday.
