Palace Announce Augsburg Friendly

17 July 2014

Crystal Palace will take on German side FC Augsburg in their final pre-season friendly before the start of the 2014/15 season.

Tony Pulis’ men will travel to the Bavarian city on Friday 8th August, with the match taking place at the SGL Arena on Saturday 9th August – exactly one week before the start of the new Barclays Premier League season.

Augsburg are sure to provide a stern test for the Eagles having finished last season in 8th place in the Bundesliga, just one point outside the Europa League places and nine points behind Champions League qualifiers Bayer Leverkusen.

Their talented squad boasts the likes of former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger, experienced Turkish international Halil Altintop and highly-rated striker Tim Matavz, who recently joined the club from PSV Eindhoven.

The clash will round off a packed pre-season schedule for Palace, with a trip to Austria completed and the United States of America to come as the squad prepare for the 2014/15 season.

The Eagles calendar of friendlies started on Wednesday evening with a 13-1 victory against GAK Graz in Austria, ahead of encounters with Columbus Crew, Philadelphia Union and Richmond Kickers during a nine-day tour of America.

Palace will then face Championship side Brentford at Griffin Park at the start of August, with the trip to Augsburg becoming their sixth friendly of the summer.
